What Should I Bring? How should I prepare for my first
class?
Please wear clothing that fits close to the skin and dress as lightly as possible. Bring a bottle of water and a large towel. Bring an extra towel if you plan to shower. Bring a yoga mat if you have one. We will provide a mat for you on the first day. Mat and towel rentals are available. Water may be purchased at the studio. You can also purchase a mat at our studio. What if you're not flexible? Yoga is for you! This is the most common misconception that prevents people from coming to yoga classes. Yoga is not about how flexible you are; it is about stretching your body and spine to increase your flexibility. Through consistent yoga practice, your flexibility will improve, but it is not necessary to be flexible before coming to class. Why is the room heated? Heat is used in yoga in order to allow you to work deeper and safer, seeing faster results. It also eliminates the risk of injuries, promotes sweating, and helps you release the toxins in your body, giving you a wonderful glow from head to toe. Each pose stretches and strengthens your muscles, joints, and ligaments and at the same time release the toxins and work on your internal organs such as the glands and the nervous system How many days a week should I do yoga? Yoga can be practiced daily unlike other forms of exercise where you should rest in between workouts. Sometimes daily life gets in the way of consistent practice. It is reccomended that you practice at least 12 times per month. However, if you have s certain goals to lose weight, reduce stress, or heal an injury, then more classes yield a quicker result. Can you eat before class? You should come to class on an empty stomach. It is best not to have food for 2 hours before class. You can drink juice or eat fruits up to 1 hour before class. What if I have pre-existing injuries? You will practice to your own ability. Please tell the teacher in advance about any conditions you have. Feel free to call us if you have any specific questions. What kind of benefits will I see? Physically you will lose inches, gain muscle tone, and improve strength and balance. Mentally, you will notice improvement in concentration skills, willpower, and a reduction in stress. Medically, you will notice that you are sick less and not as prone to injury. Yoga is proven to help those suffering from insomnia, depression, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, shoulder, knee and back injuries. Through these changes in the body, there will be changes in the mind, attitude and behavior–all positive changes to help improve your quality of life. |
